The goals for diabetes presented in Healthy People 2020 include reducing the occurrence of new cases of diabetes, improving glycemic control among those with diabetes, increasing the proportion of people with diabetes who receive regular eye exams, and increasing awareness of the signs and symptoms of diabetes. The goal is to reduce the burden of diabetes and its complications on individuals, families, and communities.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) plays a crucial role in meeting the goals for diabetes presented in Healthy People 2020.
