1. Identify the three main components of the criminal justice system and their main functions. Discuss the key role of the courts in relation to the other two components.

2. Choose three general categories of criminal behavior. Briefly compare and contrast the different types of criminological theory within each category.

3. What is meant by “emergent perspectives”? Explain in detail two emergent perspectives on crime causation.

4. What is the purpose of law? Explain the concept of “rule of law” and why it is so important. Would a society exist without laws? Comment on and analyze the pros and cons of these issues giving examples to support your opinions.
